Jain Kabab snacks are delectable vegetarian appetizers, crafted without onions, garlic, or root vegetables, in adherence to Jain dietary principles. These flavorful kababs boast a tantalizing blend of spices, ensuring a delightful culinary experience that caters to both taste and tradition.

Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup boiled and mashed raw bananas
  • 1 cup grated paneer (cottage cheese)
  • 1/2 cup boiled and mashed green peas
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped carrots (optional)
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped beans
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped bell peppers (red, green, or yellow)
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tablespoon green chilli paste
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons cornflour or arrowroot powder (as a binding agent)
  • Oil for shallow frying

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine mashed raw bananas, grated paneer, boiled peas, chopped carrots(optional), beans, bell peppers, and coriander leaves.

  2. Add green chilli paste, garam masala, cumin powder, and salt to the mixture. Mix well to ensure even distribution of spices.

  3. Sprinkle cornflour or arrowroot powder over the mixture. This will act as a binding agent. Mix until the mixture holds together well.

  4. Divide the mixture into small portions and shape them into cylindrical or oval kebabs.

  5. Heat oil in a pan for shallow frying.

  6. Once the oil is hot, place the kebabs in the pan. Shallow fry until they turn golden brown on all sides. You can also use a non-stick pan to reduce the amount of oil needed.

  7. Once done, transfer the kebabs to a plate lined with kitchen paper to absorb excess oil.

  8. Serve the Jain Vegetable Kebabs hot with your favorite Jain-friendly chutney or sauce.
